Every Nebraskan should have access to the health care services they need when they need them. Healthy children learn better, healthy adults are more productive workers, and healthy people make for stronger and more vibrant communities. We need a health care system that works for everyone. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) makes significant strides towards that goal.
We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a majority of the Affordable Care Act, including the critical provisions for health care exchanges and the health insurance mandate. Today our nation takes a step forward toward covering all children and families.
“Health care access is critically important to the future prosperity of Nebraska and the nation’s children. All children deserve the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong,” said Carolyn Rooker, Executive Director of Voices for Children in Nebraska. “Thanks to the ACA, this generation of Nebraska kids could be the first to grow up without worrying about being denied health care coverage due to pre-existing conditions and may be the first to be able to access affordable care their entire lives.
“Today the nearly 1 in 10 Nebraska kids who are uninsured, take a step forward toward having more options to access coverage. In the coming years, the ACA will help ensure that more children are able to access health care through the health care exchanges.” Rooker continued.
We hope that Nebraska will move forward with establishing a consumer-friendly exchange that interacts with the Medicaid program and helps more kids and their families get the care they need at a price they can afford.
