Current Status: Signed into law on April 11, 2012.
Estimated Fiscal Impact: Annual grants will total $128,000 of general funds in 2012-13 and $130,000 of general funds in 2013-14. The department intends to contract for the administration of the program at a cost of $12,000 general funds in 2012-13 and $10,000 general funds in 2013-14.
Voices for Children Position: Support
Voices for Children supported this bill because the current summer food program is limited and child hunger can increase during the summer months when other school food programs are not available. Some entities have pointed to the initial start-up costs as being a barrier to summer food programs and this bill is intended to overcome that barrier.
