Honoring the Omaha Public Schools THRIVE Club

On September 28, Voices for Children in Nebraska will honor those who have made an exceptional impact in making Nebraska a great place to be a kid. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on the 2018 Youth Group Award winner, the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) THRIVE Club.

The OPS THRIVE Club after-school program creates an environment where students develop leadership skills, sound decision-making, and character. THRIVE Club activities promote community service, teamwork, and the building of ethnically diverse and positive friendships. There are over 22 different languages spoken among club members and 28 countries represented. In the program, students learn to become leaders that hold the following core values: unity, servant leadership, applied knowledge, & grit. What makes THRIVE Club programming unique is their commitment to depth by providing consistent programming throughout the entire academic year on a weekly basis. The club also adopts the service-learning educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while meeting societal needs. The mission of the THRIVE Club is to unite and equip servant leaders with the right tools to overcome any obstacle by promoting diverse communities, integrity, and education. The OPS THRIVE Club has been serving students since February 2011. Last year they served over 800 students from 8 different OPS schools.

We cannot wait to honor the young people of the THRIVE Club on Friday, September 28! Click here for more information on the Spotlight Gala.
