Voices for Children is pleased to present the award for a nonprofit organization doing great work to RESPECT.
Over the past decade, RESPECT has helped to decrease violence and abuse in our communities. RESPECT uses theatre programs, in-service and parent training as a tool for talking, teaching, and learning problem-solving and communication skills. Their interactive theatre programs and focus on the prevention of abusive relationship dynamics (those found in bullying, child abuse, dating violence, relational aggression, domestic violence, animal abuse, and sexual harassment) among children and youth. Short educational theater presentations are paired with panel or group discussions led by community professionals and our actor-educators. RESPECT is the only organization of its kind in the state of Nebraska, reaching 28,000 students every year and over 350,000 students since its inception in 2000.
They provide 12 programs for students from Pre-K to college-age, trainings and in-service workshops for parents, teachers, and professionals, artist-in-residence programs, community awareness campaigns, consultation to organizations developing specific programs for unique populations.
RESPECT has been recognized with honors and awards from the Nebraska School Psychologists Association, the Nebraska Domestic Violence Coordination Council (NDVCC), Greater Omaha Safety Council, Jewish Federation of Omaha, National Council of Jewish Women-Omaha Section, Nebraska Mental Health Association, and the YWCA.
