Parents need to know that their children are in a safe and enriching environment while they are at work. Nebraska is one of the least affordable states in the country for child care—the average annual cost of child care for an infant is more than $12,000 annually. The child care subsidy program keeps parents in the workforce by offsetting the high cost of child care for lower-income families.
LB 329, introduced by Senator Bolz, is on the agenda for debate in the Nebraska Legislature the week of January 27, 2020. The bill would ensure that parents are not punished for a raise or for working extra hours with a larger loss of child care assistance by allowing parents to keep their assistance as they increase their wages up to 200% of the federal poverty level.
