Nebraska is a state that values work and values family, but these values aren’t always reflected in our laws. As the 2014 Legislative Session comes to a close, several proposals that would have helped working families failed to cross the finish line. These proposals include: paid family and medical leave, paid sick leave, an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), an expansion of Medicaid and an increase in the minimum wage.
In all of these cases, working families lost to other interests. Nebraska families are working and working hard — but we need to ensure that our policymakers are enacting laws that create a landscape that gives all families the best possible opportunity to succeed.
Next week is the national week of action for shared prosperity. Join us on Tuesday, April 8th at 5:30 on the west side of the Capitol in Lincoln to rally for working families and ensure that policymakers make Nebraska’s working families a priority in the years to come!
