Voices for Children in Nebraska is honored to recognize KETV for its dedication to excellence in reporting and its long-standing relationship with Voices for Children.
KETV has partnered with Voices for Children since the early days of the organization. In the early 1990’s KETV produced and aired a series of PSA’s about children’s issues and served as media sponsor for the Children’s Day Festival – a day-long fair with free family activities held in downtown Omaha. Our founding director was a frequent guest on the public affairs program Kaleidoscope discussing juvenile justice issues. More recently, KETV has supported Voices for Children’s annual Spotlight Gala as a media sponsor for the last eight years.
More important than their support of community organizations like Voices for Children is their commitment to outstanding reporting on children’s issues. KETV consistently covers children and youth issues with an attention to detail and solutions that is unmatched by other local TV stations. When reporting on seemingly isolated events, their reporting often includes resources for families to get help if they are experiencing a similar problem or recognition that the events of the day are a part of larger systems that govern our state.
KETV also does excellent work in their long-form reporting on important issues impacting the community including the recent special reports on teen pregnancy and the importance of early childhood education in raising successful children. Their reporting isn’t afraid to take a hard look at tough issues, evidenced by segments of their Chronicle series on juvenile justice.
