Child safety is about more than just physical safety. It’s about ensuring youth have the experiences and supports that support their healthy development. For children, this involves permanent, loving family connections. Unfortunately in Nebraska, many of the resources we have available to keep children safe, especially from the federal government, are used on the most intrusive and disruptive services – out-of-home care.
Imagine what we could do if we invested an equal amount of money in preventing c
hild maltreatment or providing supports to keep families together, whether biological or adoptive. We owe it to our children and families to invest at least the same amount of money in keeping them together, as we use to keep them apart.
