Voices for Children is excited to announce some exciting details about our 2014 Spotlight Gala, coming up Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Embassy Suites in LaVista.
At Voices for Children we are committed to “telling the whole story” for Nebraska’s kids. As part of that commitment, we focus on bigger picture policy changes that benefit children. But we also know that there are amazing things happening on the ground, benefiting kids in our communities, throughout our state, each and every day.
The 2014 Spotlight Gala presents us with a great opportunity to highlight some of those initiatives and recognize the people and organizations that are making them all possible. The heart of the Spotlight Gala is to shine a light on children and those who seek to help them every day.
The 2014 Spotlight Gala has two outstanding event chairs in Emily Tonniges and Patti Koraleski. We are also fortunate to have a passionate honorary family in Mr. Steve Martin and Dr. Amy Haddad. In addition, we are honoring some truly amazing award recipients, including:
- Lifetime Achievement – Dr. Donna Polk
- Individual Award – Scott Smathers, Hunters Helping the Hungry
- Nonprofit Award – The ConAgra Foods Foundation
- Youth Award – Tiauna Lewis
In 2013, more than 650 supporters helped commemorate our last Spotlight Gala, and because of our great volunteers, sponsors and supporters, the 2014 Spotlight Gala is already shaping up to be even more successful. You can once again expect exciting live and silent auction packages and inspiring student art.
In my nearly four years as Executive Director of Voices for Children, I continue to be amazed at the great work in our communities and the positive impact it has had on children.
This work reinforces the truth behind that famous Margaret Mead quote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
We look forward to telling these stories at the Spotlight Gala, so please mark your calendars and save the date.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information on this event!
