Love policy and data and know a thing or two about communications?  Voices for Children in Nebraska is seeking a Communications Director/Coordinator.

 

Title:  Communications Director/Coordinator

Job Summary:    Responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy and coordinating campaigns, publications and events sponsored by Voices for Children ranging from educational events and press conferences to fundraising events.

Reporting Relationship:  Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, coordinate, and maintain Voices for Children’s communications strategy including media relations, publications, and social media.
  • Coordinate advance work for conferences, community meetings, receptions and other special events with the Special Projects Coordinator.
  • Work with policy staff to review and edit legislative testimony and materials (like fact sheets, infographics, issue briefs, etc.) in accordance with Voices for Children’s style and brand standards.
  • Craft talking points for organizational spokespeople including policy and research staff and the Executive Director.
  • Update the Board of Directors on communications activities.
  • Maintain media contact directory and coordinate press conferences, report dissemination, releases and responses to press requests.
  • Keep up with current issues by regularly viewing Nebraska media. Coordinate media responses by identifying issues requiring our voice across the state, generating responsive releases or editorials as needed and/or making recommendations for action to the appropriate project staff, intern, members or Executive Director.
  • Coordinate printing bids, layout and design for all Voices for Children publications including the annual Kids Count in Nebraska Report.
  • Coordinate speaking requests with staff.
  • Create and maintain the advoKID email network and social media.
  • Create and maintain a uniform look for Voices for Children printed materials and website.
  • Maintain record media clippings for  Voices for Children and Kids Count.
  • Provide copy writing and design support for Voices for Children’s fund development and Gala planning to ensure that development efforts support the organization’s brand.
  • Secure and supervise interns to support the communications and marketing work of Voices for Children as needed.
  • Work with staff and national experts to incorporate effective framing of children’s issues into Voices for Children’s ongoing communications efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications or social sciences or related field.
  • 3-5 years experience in nonprofit communications, government or related field with transferable experiences.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills including proof reading and copy editing.
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
  • Knowledge of nonpartisan policy communications and messaging highly desired.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Experience with Content Management Systems, particularly WordPress.
  • Experience using social media (including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) for an organization.
