Kids Count 2017 is on its way!

We have been busy this fall compiling data and putting together the 2017 Kids Count in Nebraska Report – our biggest and best yet! This year’s book contains data in each of our five issues areas: health, education, economic stability, child welfare, and juvenile justice as well as population level demographics, an update to our Index of Race and Opportunity, and county-based indicators.

This year, our commentary takes an in-depth look at Nebraska’s children with disabilities. This diverse population of kids present needs frequently beyond the typical challenges accompanying raising a child. Learn more about this population and what our state’s systems can do to better support them and their families as they grow into adults.

We are releasing this year’s Kids Count in Nebraska Report on Tuesday, January 30, at the Nebraska State Capitol with an open public release event the next day at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center in Omaha. Copies of the report will be available for pickup starting January 30, at the Voices for Children office, or in State Capitol Room 1023 from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm on January 30. All data contained within Kids Count will also be updated on the Kids Count NEteractive site.

Every year, in addition to our public release events, we travel across the state and share our Kids Count presentation and publication to community groups and organizations. If you would like your group to receive a Kids Count presentation this year, contact Chrissy at ctonkinson@voicesforchildren.com.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Your computer program crashed when I tried to click on the bubble for the number of copies needed. It wiped everything out twice and I had to start over. That time it gave me a line to write in a number and I was able to submit. Most people will quit and not fill it out 3 times. You could get a lot of walk ins who intend to come but don’t register.

Hi Ann, thanks for letting us know! We’ve tested it on multiple accounts and computers and haven’t run into the same problem. Hopefully it was just a one-off glitch. We will be prepared with extra reports that day just in case. Happy Holidays!
