I am Caitlin Scaife and I am excited to being working with Voices for Children as the new Policy and Research Associate through Lutheran Volunteer Corps.
I graduated from Grinnell College in May with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies. During my time at Grinnell I became increasingly interested in social justice and am excited to spend the next year learning about and fighting injustice, both as a volunteer with Lutheran Volunteer Corps and with Voices for Children.
For the past few years I have been interested in policy work, particularly related to civil rights issues. This interest was strengthened when I interned for the United States Commission on Civil Rights in Washington, D.C. last summer. During my time there, I researched civil rights issues concerning a variety of groups including Native Americans, Veterans, LGBTQ individuals, immigrants, and others. This work frequently brought me to children’s issues that Voices for Children focuses on including healthcare, education, and poverty, particularly among Native American and immigrant children.
I look forward to learning more about children’s issues and how to effectively promote change through research and policy. I am excited to join Voices for Children in Nebraska in their work promoting children’s rights!
