In Nebraska, many adolescents who commit crimes directly enter the adult criminal justice system. This can have negative impacts on a child’s future and cuts them off from many of the developmentally appropriate resources that the juvenile justice system offers children.

It’s important to be “smart on crime,” and protect society. Treating kids as adults, however, doesn’t accomplish this.
